MARIE ANN (nee Doyle) March 21, 2008 of Southampton Twp. N.J., formerly of Phila. Wife of the late Claude C. Wilcox Sr.; and mother of Claude C. Jr., Owen C., Robert W., and William J.; also survived by her grand-children Christie, Matthew, Tara, Lauren, Owen Jr., Shannon, Britney, and Bill Jr.; her great grandchildren, Bryant, and Ariana Marie.
Good morning. This morning we have gathered to celebrate the distinguished life of Marie Anne Wilcox. Marie was a dedicated wife and mother, a grandmother and a great grandmother. She was in the truest sense of the words, a dear friend. Throughout her life she was a woman that felt passion for her family, both those that were directly related to her and the numerous extended family and friends that she enjoyed and welcomed into her
bountiful heart. She effortlessly melted the love and passion of being a Doyle with the strength and courage of being a Wilcox, encouraging those admirable traits in each of us in her role as a matriarch and an inspirational life guide.
Mom cherished each moment, every conversation, and she smiled with a special warmth that will continue on and last for generations by all of us. Each of us is fortunate to have known her for various reasons and will likely recall personal moments that we have shared with her.
Some knew her as Mom, others called her Marie and to a few of us, she was affectionately known as “Minnie.” I still recall the cards my father would give her on anniversaries and other special occasions where he would give her the title “Bugs”. She was an avid Sudoku and word puzzle player and a fan of the TV Network where she remained Colombo’s biggest fan, even if she did know who did it as the shows had become etched in her memory. She
was an avid reader of mystery and action/adventure literary works, even telling me she was my biggest fan after proofreading several of my novels. She held dear the value of family, a family that no matter how deep our individual differences, we all agree that we love her and
we are better for having her in our lives.
I would be remiss if I did not take a moment to also give recognition to one of our family. On behalf of my brothers, their families, the family and friends of Marie, and myself, we extend our love and appreciation and a heartfelt thank you to Joan Wilcox, who selflessly gave her time and compassion to Marie. Thank you, Joan. As Wilcox’s, we are extremely fortunate and honored to have you in our family. Today we pray with our individual voices, that the gates of heaven be opened and that Claude, her ever loving husband, stand and take her in his arms and welcome her to a place they both have richly earned. We love you both, Claude and Marie, and we will miss you only until that day when we are all together again in God’s greater glory.
